The McKendry name has been synonymous with precast concrete in Christchurch and the South Island since 1945 when Maurice McKendry set up his precast concrete business in Talford Pl, manufacturing domestic and rural precast concrete tanks, troughs, wash basins and many other items. Precast components for the construction industry were manufactured from the 1970’s supplying precast to many iconic Canterbury buildings.
John McKendry joined the family business in 1986 and worked until the business was sold in 2001.
McKendry Construction was incorporated in 2002 when John McKendry started working on residential house alterations and additions, within 2 years McKendry Construction was contract building for a large construction company building warehouses and multi storey commercial buildings.
Post earthquake John McKendry worked in the Fletcher EQR building repair programme repairing earthquake damaged houses throughout Christchurch.
In 2015 McKendry Construction set up a precast facility in Flaxton Rd Rangiora and commenced casting, since then we have been busy supplying precast components to our valued clients supporting in the builds of major Christchurch rebuild projects ie Fletcher Living Residential – Superlot Developments, D&A Smiths Development – hotel & warehouse developments.
The Christchurch Library, Riverside Market, The Guthrey Centre, Riccarton Community Centre, multiple BP stations, 2200 seawall blocks for the Kaikoura Rd rebuild, we have also supplied precast to sites throughout the South Island, The School of Music Building in Dunedin, BP Dunedin, The Earth, Sea & Sky building in Tekapo, Coastal View Retirement Village in Nelson and residential precast to Kaikoura for a large architectural residence.
McKendry Construction can supply precast concrete units for the residential, light commercial, commercial and civil construction sectors manufactured and installed to your requirements. We can manufacture everything from detailed architectural work to large structural elements and can assist with design and shop drawings for your next building project. Our manufacturing facility is based in Rangiora with 450 square meters of specialised steel casting tables to deliver high-quality precast units.
John has been in the construction and precast industry for 38 years, 16 of those years were specialised precast experience with the family business M.J. McKendry Ltd.
John has also worked with large construction companies as a contract builder and site manager and now oversees the day to day running of McKendry Construction.

Richard has been in the precast and construction industry for 33 years working and managing various precast operations in the Canterbury region.
Richard looks after the programming, quality assurance, staff management, contract purchasing and all general production duties.

As we are owner operators we really make sure the product we are sending to site is accurate dimensionally and to a high precast standard, we aim to provide a precast unit that can be installed efficiently to minimise craneage and onsite costs.
