Te Kaha Stadium

McKendry Construction was the successful tenderer to supply precast plats to Te Kaha Stadium which means that McKendry Construction is the largest supplier of precast concrete for the Te Kaha Stadium build, the new stadium is the largest of the anchor projects in Christchurch.

We commenced manufacturing in May 2023 of the 1721 plats required which equates to a massive 11 kilometers and 10000 tonnes of precast concrete with over 500 tonnes of reinforcing in the plats. Mckendry Construction have been casting up to 8 plats per day to meet the Main Contractors requirements and will continue casting for balance of this year. We are now delivering up to 16 units per day with the Main Contractor installing them as they are being delivered, great progress.

We are also manufacturing very large double flight precast stairs to the West Stand, the majority of these are 20 tonnes each including 2.5 tonnes of reinforcing per stair, progress for the stair manufacturing is going very well.

Lincoln University North Sciences Building

McKendry Construction was contracted by Leighs Construction to manufacture and install the Learning and Research Center panels for the new Lincoln Science building. Stage 1 was 18 panels averaging 26 tonnes each installed in two days, followed by the six rocking shear wall panels weighing between 52 and 62 tonnes each, including 7 tonnes of reinforcing in each panel.

These were transported to site on specialist heavy transport trailers and then fitted with Techtonus seismic units increasing the weight of the panels by 3 tonnes each. The panels were rotated from the trucks using two cranes. A 250 tonne Main crane  and a 160 tonne Tailing crane. The lifts went smoothly erecting the massive precast panels in two days. The coordination effort including multiple planning meetings between the main contactor and McKendry Construction meant the whole process went smoothly.

It was precise planning with structural engineers, temporary works engineers, precast lifting design engineers, the draughting team, the Techtonus team, reinforcing  and concrete suppliers, structural steel, transport, crane and access equipment contractors, the precast install team and the health and safety teams to ensure the whole process went without a hicup.

Fletcher Living Worcester Terraces

McKendry Construction was awarded the contract for 11 separate buildings for Fletcher Living Worcester Terraces at the end of 2019. We commenced manufacturing early March 2020, recommenced casting post lockdown and completed manufacture of 517 precast units by January 2021.

Detailed Pre tender planning included multiple meetings to discuss best solutions for; manufacturing, precast transport, site craneage, speed of precast erection and architectural finishes.

A good working relationship between Fletcher Living, McKendry Construction,  Architects and Engineers ensured all precast was manufactured to shop drawing specification and all units were erected without any delay. The majority of precast units were bespoke and featured high quality timber board architectural finishes .

A total of 1700m3 of concrete equated to 4250 tonnes of Quality precast componentry delivered within budget and two months ahead of the scheduled construction program.

Christchurch Library

McKendry Construction worked in conjunction with Southbase Construction to manufacture the shearwall panels for the new Christchurch Library.

The shearwalls are made up for the east core and the west core with another two independent panels.

These panels as far as we know are the largest panels to be manufactured in New Zealand and on a world standard are close to being some of the largest panels to be manufactured.

McKendry Construction manufactured nine of the thirteen panels required the smallest weighing 22.0 tonnes and the heaviest a massive 132.0 tonnes.

The complex reinforcing cage averaged 10 tonnes per panel and took approximately a week to fabricate.
